Today, take a moment to think about how much your emotions affect the quality of your life. We all strive to feel the good emotions, joy, connection, peace, hope. When we experience these emotions, even just for a moment, it really is the best feeling, isn’t it?
Then there are the emotions that feel heavier, the ones we don’t strive to feel. The discomfort they bring results in us thinking there’s something wrong, either with us, with our circumstances, with others, or with the world in general. So what do we do? We try to fix them so the discomfort can go away and we can feel better. Not everyone is a fixer though, so we default to behaviours which cause resistance and make things worse.
Today is about noticing, putting something concrete in place and then doing something in the moment that’s far healthier than ignoring, fighting, or trying to fix them.
Your feelings board
Haven’t experienced one of these? Just imagine how you’d feel and react.
Someone cuts you off in traffic
What feeling comes up?
What’s your go-to?
Your to-do list keeps growing
What feeling comes up?
What’s your go-to?
Someone you care about is mad at you
What feeling comes up?
What’s your go-to?
You hear bad news
What feeling comes up?
What’s your go-to?
You are late for an important meeting
What feeling comes up?
What’s your go-to?
Today’s move: notice when that feeling comes up and say, out loud or in your head, “I see you. You’re just another feeling. Everything’s going to be okay.”
8 days in. You’re doing the real work now.
Naming a feeling is not the same as being ruled by it. That’s the whole shift.
Don’t forget: notice when that feeling comes up and say, out loud or in your head, “I see you. You’re just another feeling. Everything’s going to be okay.”
