Day 52 Check-In | GRIT in Five

Boundary Marathon · Day 7 of 10

Food for Thought

On day 52, I want to pause for a moment and remind you that not everything you read here may be a fit for you. Just because you read it does not mean it applies to you or that you resonate with it. Noticing that and saying, “I see that, however that is not true for me,” is all part of the process. Learning to think for yourself, have an open mind and know what is true for you, not just believe what you are told, is so powerful.

Having said that, today I want to speak about a two letter word. Yep, you guessed it. No.

So often you say yes when you mean no and almost certainly end up regretting it, knowing you were already past capacity, building resentment and then blaming people for asking.

Here’s the kicker. It is not that people are asking. It is that it feels too uncomfortable, too unsafe, to say no. You do not want to disappoint people because somewhere along the way, disappointing people felt unsafe. You do not want to let people down because that is how you have learned to feel loved.

What do you do instead? You abandon yourself. You people please and then you blame others. In actual fact, it has nothing to do with them and everything to do with a muscle inside you that needs developing. It is the discomfort muscle that comes from saying no.

Now, you might find saying no really easy. If that is the case, today will not fit you entirely.
