Day 33 Check-In | GRIT in Five

Gratitude

Food for Thought

Today you are going to prime your brain to look for and notice everything that is good, everything that makes you feel good, everything that is abundant, all the things that are going right.

Gratitude has been shown to activate the same reward pathways in your brain as receiving money. It also lowers cortisol and can shift your mood within minutes, not weeks.

Your brain has a built in negativity bias. It is wired to notice threats and problems first, that is how it kept you safe for thousands of years. However, that wiring is trainable.

Tonight, right before you fall asleep, you are going to prime your brain for the good.

Tonight, before you fall asleep.

Today’s move:
  1. Sit on the end of your bed, feet flat on the floor, back straight, eyes closed.
  2. Scan through your day. The good, the bad, the ugly, every part of it.
  3. Scan through it again, this time looking specifically for the best parts.
  4. Name them out loud, one by one.
  5. Now pick just one. The absolute highlight of your day.
  6. Take a moment to really feel the gratitude for it, then say thank you three times. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Whoop whoop, you are 33 whole days in!

Yeah, you might not have gotten it perfect. However, today take a moment to celebrate progress, not perfection!

See you tomorrow.
