GRIT in Five — Day 17
Food for Thought

So much of your behaviour is automatic, in other words you do not even think about it. It is also conditional and generational, handed down to you generation to generation.

When you do things automatically that enhance your life, you should keep doing those things. When you do things automatically that are not good for you, they may sabotage your happiness without you even knowing it. Finding these behaviours can only have a positive knock on effect in your life.

Today you are going to look at a few self sabotaging behaviours, not to criticize yourself, feel guilty, or live in regret, but purely to start to notice. Remember, it all starts with noticing. Until you notice, you can never change it.

It is important to pause for a moment here and remember that none of this is your fault. These were protective mechanisms once upon a time that kept you safe.

This activity is not intended for you to feel less than or bad about yourself. The sheer fact that you are here looking at this shows a level of courage that not many have.

You are going to find behaviours that could sabotage your happiness. I’d like you to zoom out and answer honestly.

Remember, nobody is seeing this. This is for your eyes only.

Choose the three that stand out for you the most.
You picked
Are you aware of this about yourself?
Can you see that this has kept you safe?
Are you willing to feel compassion for this part of you?

Fantastic.

You just did something that was hard, but you did it anyway. Take a moment to see your courage.

Self Sabotaging Behaviours
Today’s move: play your favourite song and dance like no one’s watching. Sing at the top of your voice, shake your entire body and let it out. Shaking your body lets go of any negative energy and the more you put into it, the better you are going to feel afterward.
Day 17, Complete

You faced what you usually avoid, and then you danced anyway. That is what growth actually looks like.
